FAQ’s About Scenics

Moab, Utah - Canyonlands Field

Redtail Aviation is located at the Canyonlands Field airport inside the main terminal and Canyonlands Field is 18 miles North of the city of Moab which takes about 25 minutes to drive.

St. George, Utah - St George Municipal Airport

Redtail Aviation meets our scenic and charter customers at the Above View Terminal. Please drive past the airline terminal and on to the General Aviation side of the airport to meet your pilot for your flight.

On most of our scenics we require a 2 person minimum in the aircraft before we will fly.

Please arrive at the airport 15 minutes before your flight so that you can check in with our reservations desk, use the facilities, and meet your pilot.

Please Note:

Travel time from the center of Moab or St. George to the airport is 25 - 35 minutes so keep this in mind as you make your driving plans.

Redtail flies every type of flight including, but not limited to: Scenic Tours, River Shuttles, Customized Charters, Freight and Cargo, and Business Travel. If you would like to know if we can do a flight for you then call us to talk to our highly trained reservation specialists about the best kind of flight for you. 1(800)842-9251 or email myplane@redtailaviation.com

Our fleet is made up of all single engine, high wing airplanes so that all of our passengers get window seats and have great views of the landscapes below. Click here to see our fleet.

Unless you charter the complete airplane you will be sharing the flight with other guests. We try to seat couples and families side-by-side as much as possible. We cannot guarantee particular seating as it is often dictated by our FAA approved “weight and balance” program. However, visibility from every seat is excellent and everyone gets a window seat.

Our pilots make every effort to make all our flights very smooth and turns are slow and gentle. This is a professional scenic tour, not a thrill ride. Most people do not experience motion sickness and do not need an anti-motion sickness medication; however, if you are particularly prone to motion sickness taking a precautionary, non-drowsy, anti-motion sickness medication is a good idea. We fly over rock formations that can create thermals that may cause mild turbulence so some small bumps should be expected.

Our flight times are based largely on weather and wind related to the time of year you are flying. Mornings are almost always the best time to fly so our scenic flights are scheduled for 9:00 am and 11:00 am to make your ride as enjoyable as possible.

All of our scenic flights have unique qualities and we try to offer as much beautiful scenery as possible in a single flight. We recommend choosing your flight according to two factors:

  1. Time constraints
  2. Things you have never seen

Keep your vacation itinerary in mind, but remember that it is almost impossible to see many of Utah's wonders from the ground. If you can't fit all of the things you want to do into one flight then come see us again and fill your photo books with all of the distinct landscapes!

Our pilots will do their best to help you see all of the features we highlight about our tours. Arches can be difficult to spot, but most of the landscapes are easy to see and photograph. If you have particular features that you are excited to see then let your pilot know in advance and they can direct your attentions accordingly.

We do not require you to make a reservation; however, it is best to book your flight in advance so that we can guarantee a flight time that works best for you. Our tours are becoming more and more popular which makes it hard to have pilots available, but we do offer free adjustments to the time of your flight if available and do not charge for cancellations as long as they are called into our office 24 hours before your flight time.

At our Moab location we are open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm week days and weekends.

At our Price location we are open from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm week days and 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on weekends.

Of course, you're going to need a camera and lots of film or space on memory cards so charge your batteries and make sure you're ready to take some amazing pictures. Feel free to bring a beverage if you would like. (Just remember to visit the Restrooms in the terminal before you fly)

Dress exactly as you would to be outside the day that you fly. The air is always a bit cooler up at flying altitude so if it's a warm day then it will be more comfortable up high. If you're flying on a cooler day then bring a jacket just in case. There are heaters in the airplanes, but everyone's temperature preference is a little bit different so bring long sleeves if you tend to be cold.

All of our pilots are required to pass all Federal Aviation Administration tests as well as our own stringent flight training before flying for us. They are all trained in back country flying and are re-trained yearly to ensure proficiency.

We schedule our scenic flights in the morning because lower lighting creates better pictures and the cool morning air is much more comfortable to fly in. The best times to fly are 9:00 am and 11:00 am.

Weather is always hard to estimate especially when you're planning weeks or months in advance. We never charge for weather related cancellations and we'll normally contact you to let you know that we won't be flying that day.

Cancellation Policy: All flights not cancelled within 24 hours of reservation time will be charged full price. Cancellation due to weather will not be charged. If you need to change the time or adjust your flight please let us know as soon as possible otherwise you will be charged. Email cancellation the night before your flight WILL be charged full price. Please call our office with short notice cancellations.

You can call us with the dates you would like to fly or you can email us with the same information. We will need a credit card number and expiration date to hold your reservation, but you won't be charged in advance.
